Fiverr's own filings tell a clear story. Fewer people are buying, but the ones who stay spend more. Active buyers fell from 3.4 million to 2.7 million in the year to June 30, 2026, and spend per buyer climbed from $318 to $368 over the same stretch.
If you sell on Fiverr, that shift matters more than the headline revenue. A smaller pool of bigger clients means each order carries more weight, and so does every term you agree to before the work starts. Below we explain what the numbers mean for sellers and buyers, and what to put in writing.

Is Fiverr losing buyers?
Yes, and steadily. Annual active buyers, meaning anyone who ordered a Gig in the prior 12 months, fell from 4.0 million in December 2023 to 2.7 million in June 2026. Not one reporting date in that series shows an increase.
The drop is not the same as a collapse in demand, though. Spend per buyer went the other way, rising from $278 to $368. The numbers fit a platform that is keeping clients with bigger projects while losing more of the casual, one-off buyers.
For a seller, that means two things. First, there are fewer new clients to win, so competition for each order gets sharper. Second, the clients you do land tend to spend more, so a single dispute or unpaid milestone hurts more than it used to.
Here is a simple way to picture it. A buyer who once ordered a single banner now orders a full landing page, then comes back for the copy and the ad set. Fiverr loses the banner buyer but keeps the bigger one, and your income depends far more on keeping that one happy.
How much does Fiverr actually keep?
Fiverr's marketplace take rate was 28.0% for the 12 months ended June 30, 2026, up from 27.6% a year earlier. Take rate is marketplace revenue divided by GMV, the total value of orders placed.
Read that carefully. The take rate blends the service fee buyers pay at checkout with the commission taken from sellers. It is not the cut on any single order. Your own share depends on the order size, the fees in force when you sell, and any paid tools you use.
Still, it gives you a useful reality check. Of the $1,073.0 million in GMV that passed through the marketplace in 2025, Fiverr booked $297.5 million as marketplace revenue. When you price a Gig, price it so the amount that lands in your account covers your time, not the number the buyer sees.
A quick test helps. Take your lowest package price, subtract the seller fee shown in your dashboard, then divide by the hours the job really takes, including messages and revisions. If that hourly figure would embarrass you on a direct client invoice, the package is priced too low.
Is Fiverr's revenue growing or shrinking in 2026?
It is shrinking. Revenue was $97.8 million in Q2 2026, down 10.0% from Q2 2025. In July 2026 the company put its full-year 2026 outlook at $356 million to $372 million, which implies a 14% to 17% decline from 2025.
That follows a run of growth. Total revenue rose from $297.7 million in 2021 to $430.9 million in 2025. Look under the hood, though, and the marketplace itself was already flat to down. Marketplace revenue slipped from $303.1 million in 2024 to $297.5 million in 2025, while services revenue (seller tools, payments and other products) carried the growth.
Q2 2026 shows the same split. Marketplace revenue fell 15.5% to $63.1 million, while services revenue rose 2.0% to $34.6 million. The marketplace still brings in most of the money, but a growing share now comes from tools sold around it.
Why should a seller care about the parent company's revenue? Because a platform under pressure tends to change fees, ranking rules and paid promotion tools. Keep an eye on policy updates, and avoid building your whole income on a single channel you do not control.
What do these numbers mean for Fiverr sellers?
A shrinking buyer base and rising spend per buyer point to a market where repeat, higher-value clients matter most. A few practical moves follow from that.
Treat your best clients like accounts, not orders. When a buyer keeps coming back for new projects, it may make sense to agree written terms that cover the ongoing relationship, as long as you stay within the platform's rules on off-platform deals.
Get precise about scope. Bigger orders invite bigger arguments over what was included. A vague Gig description is how a simple project turns into endless rounds of edits.
It also helps to spread your risk. Many sellers use Fiverr to find clients and then build a direct pipeline through referrals, a portfolio site, or other platforms. If you do take work off the marketplace with a new client you met elsewhere, you no longer have Fiverr's payment protection, so your contract has to do that job.
- Spell out the number of revisions in every package, and what counts as a new request.
- Write delivery dates that depend on the buyer sending files and answers on time.
- Keep custom offers specific: deliverables, file formats, and who owns the source files.
- Save all scope changes in the order thread so there is a record if a dispute reaches support.
- Build fees into your price before you quote, not after.
What should you put in writing for off-platform clients?
Once you work with a client directly, nobody holds the money in escrow and nobody steps in when a delivery is disputed. The contract is the only protection you have, so it needs to cover the things Fiverr used to handle for you.
Start with payment. Ask for a deposit before work begins, tie the remaining payments to delivered milestones, and set a date by which each invoice must be paid. Avoid wording that lets the client hold payment until they feel satisfied, because that is the same as no deadline at all.
Then cover what happens if things go wrong: a cap on revisions, a fee if the client cancels partway through, and a clear point at which ownership of the work passes to the client, ideally only after you are paid in full.
What should buyers and businesses take from the data?
The United States is Fiverr's largest market by far, at $205.4 million of 2025 revenue. That is nearly half the total.
If you hire through Fiverr for anything bigger than a quick task, treat the platform's terms as the floor. They set general rules for every order, but they do not set your deadlines, define what counts as an acceptable delivery, or list which source files and licensed assets you get. For larger or ongoing work, agree a short written scope and an ownership clause up front. It protects you and the freelancer, and it makes the handover cleaner if you ever move the work in-house.
How ClauseAudit helps
Fiverr's numbers point to fewer, bigger clients. That raises the stakes on every agreement you sign, on or off the platform. When a client sends you their own contract or statement of work, run it through an automated review before you accept.
ClauseAudit flags the clauses that most often cost freelancers money and explains each one in plain English, with a suggested fix you can send back.
- Payment terms: when you get paid, and whether payment hangs on a vague "final approval"
- Revisions and scope: whether revisions are capped or open-ended
- IP ownership: whether the client takes your pre-existing tools, templates or unused concepts
- Kill fee: what you are owed if the client cancels midway
- Liability and indemnity: whether you could owe damages far above your fee
- Non-solicitation: whether the client tries to block you from working in your field
Frequently asked questions
How many active buyers does Fiverr have?
Fiverr reported 2.7 million annual active buyers as of June 30, 2026. That counts anyone who ordered a Gig in the prior 12 months. A year earlier the figure was 3.4 million, so the buyer base shrank by 21.9%. It has fallen at every reporting date we track since December 2023, when it stood at 4.0 million.
What is Fiverr's take rate?
Fiverr's marketplace take rate was 28.0% for the 12 months ended June 30, 2026, compared with 27.6% a year earlier. It is marketplace revenue divided by gross merchandise value, so it blends the fees buyers pay with the commissions sellers pay. It is not the exact cut on your individual orders.
How much revenue did Fiverr make in 2025?
Fiverr reported total revenue of $430.9 million for full year 2025, up from $391.5 million in 2024. The United States was the largest region at $205.4 million. Marketplace revenue was $297.5 million, with the rest coming from services such as seller tools and payment products.
Is Fiverr declining?
On revenue and buyers, yes for now. Q2 2026 revenue was $97.8 million, down 10.0% year over year, and the company guided full-year 2026 revenue to $356 million to $372 million, an implied 14% to 17% decline. Spend per buyer is still rising, which shows the remaining clients are buying more.
How much does the average Fiverr buyer spend?
Annual spend per buyer was $368 as of June 30, 2026, up 15.6% from $318 a year earlier. Fiverr calculates it as trailing 12-month marketplace GMV divided by annual active buyers. It has climbed at every reporting date we track since December 2023, when it was $278.
What is Fiverr's GMV?
Fiverr's marketplace gross merchandise value was $1,073.0 million in 2025, down 2.2% from $1,097.6 million in 2024. GMV is the total value of orders placed on the marketplace, excluding VAT or GST, chargebacks and refunds. Fiverr kept $297.5 million of that 2025 GMV as marketplace revenue.
Do I need a contract if I sell on Fiverr?
For small Gigs, the platform's terms and a clear package description usually cover you. For larger custom offers or repeat clients, a short written scope helps. It should cover deliverables, revisions, deadlines that depend on the buyer's input, and who owns the source files. If a client sends their own agreement, read it before you start.
