Getting started & how it works

What is ClauseAudit?+

ClauseAudit is an AI tool that reviews a contract and explains the risks in plain English before you sign. You upload a contract, or a photo of one, and in about a minute you get a risk score, every risky clause flagged and explained, how each term compares to what's typical, and a downloadable report, redline, and ready-to-send negotiation email. It's built for people who aren't lawyers.

How does it work?+

Pick the contract type (or let it auto-detect), tell us your US state, optionally type what you’re worried about, then upload or paste your contract. The AI reads every clause, applies your state’s law, compares terms to a curated benchmark set, and returns a structured risk report you can read on screen or download.

What can I upload?+

A PDF, Word (DOCX), or plain-text file, pasted text, or a photo/image of a contract (JPG, PNG). You can also paste online terms of service. Most common contracts are well under our page limit.

Can it read a photo or a scanned contract?+

Yes. If you took a picture of a contract with your phone or have a scanned, image-only PDF, ClauseAudit reads the text directly with AI vision, no separate scanner or OCR app needed. This is one of the most common ways people use it.

How long does a review take?+

A typical contract is reviewed in about 30–60 seconds. Very long agreements (hundreds of pages) take a few minutes because they’re split into sections, analyzed, and combined so nothing is missed.

Accuracy, trust & reliability

Is this legal advice?+

No. ClauseAudit provides AI-generated information and risk education to help you understand a contract. It is not a law firm and does not create an attorney–client relationship. For anything high-stakes, use the report to walk into a lawyer’s office already knowing the right questions.

How accurate is it?+

It uses leading AI models in a fixed, contract-specific workflow, grounded in real statutes and a curated benchmark set rather than guesswork. No AI, or lawyer, is infallible, so treat the output as a strong, structured first read, and confirm anything you rely on with an attorney. Every flagged clause quotes the actual contract text so you can verify it.

How does it know my state’s laws?+

You select your US state, and the analysis injects the relevant federal and state rules, for example, non-compete enforceability, security-deposit caps, and entry-notice requirements. It covers all 50 states plus DC, and can verify against live sources with citations.

Does it ever make things up?+

We work hard to prevent that. When it tells you a term is "typical" or "aggressive," that comparison comes from a curated reference set tied to real law, and if there’s no reliable benchmark for a clause, it says "no benchmark available" instead of inventing one. It also quotes the exact clause for every finding.

How is this better than asking ChatGPT or another chatbot?+

A general chatbot only does as well as your prompt and answers from memory, it quietly skips what you forget to ask and can be confidently out of date. ClauseAudit runs the same thorough checks every time, injects your state’s current law, handles very long contracts reliably, and gives you a structured, downloadable report you can save and bring to a lawyer.

Pricing & billing

How much does it cost?+

A one-time Single Review is $19. Subscriptions start at $50/month (Pro, 4 reviews), with Business and Scale for higher volume, and yearly plans give two months free. There’s also an Enterprise option for agencies and firms. Every plan is backed by a 100% money-back guarantee.

What’s the difference between a Single Review and a subscription?+

A Single Review is a one-time $19 purchase for one contract, perfect if you just have one job offer or lease to check. Subscriptions give you a set number of reviews each month (or year) at a lower price per review, ideal for freelancers, recruiters, and teams who review contracts regularly.

Do subscriptions renew automatically?+

Yes, subscriptions renew automatically each billing period at the then-current price until you cancel, so your reviews don’t lapse. The Single Review is a one-time purchase and does not renew. You can cancel anytime from your account.

Can I cancel anytime?+

Yes. Cancel from your account page whenever you like. You keep access through the end of the current paid period, and it won’t renew after that.

What counts as one review, and what are the page limits?+

Each review covers a contract up to 35 pages. On a Single Review, extra pages are billed at $7 per additional 35 pages. On subscription plans, a longer document simply uses an extra review credit per additional 35 pages.

Privacy & security

Is my contract private?+

Yes. Your contract is processed only to produce your analysis. It is never used to train AI, and we never sell your data. Saved reviews are private to your account, no other user can see them.

Do you store my contract?+

We keep your analysis report so you can revisit it without re-running, but we do not keep your full uploaded document on file. You can delete any saved review whenever you like.

Do you use my contract to train AI?+

No, never. The analysis runs on the Anthropic API, so your contracts are never used to train general-purpose AI and will never appear in another user’s answers.

Who can see my saved reviews?+

Only you. Each saved review is tied to your account, and the app only ever returns a review to the signed-in user who created it. You can delete any of them at any time.

What contracts are supported

What types of contracts can it review?+

Five specialized analyzers, Employment, Freelance/Contractor, NDA, SaaS/Software, and Lease, plus a general auto-detect mode for anything else (vendor agreements, services contracts, sales/purchase, and more).

What if my contract type isn’t one of the five?+

Use auto-detect. It identifies the contract and applies a thorough general risk review covering liability, IP, termination, auto-renewal, payment, indemnification, and the other high-risk areas common to most agreements.

Is it US-only?+

The legal analysis is tuned to United States law across all 50 states and DC. You can still get a useful general risk read on a non-US contract, but the state and federal law references are US-specific.

Are there length limits?+

Each review covers up to 35 pages; longer contracts use additional credits and are handled in sections so nothing is dropped. You can upload a PDF, DOCX, TXT, or a photo (JPG/PNG) up to 32MB, paste text, or fetch a publicly shared Google Doc / Drive link.

What you get

What’s in the report?+

An overall risk score and level, a plain-English executive summary, every flagged clause with what it means and why it matters, how each term compares to typical, recommendations, what the contract gets right, and any standard protections that are missing.

What is the redline?+

A downloadable Word (DOCX) document with suggested fairer wording for each risky clause, ready to drop into the contract or send back to the other side.

What is the negotiation email?+

A one-click, ready-to-send email that politely asks the other party for the changes you want, framed as reasonable requests. Copy it or download it, edit, and send.

Can I re-download a past review?+

Yes. Every analysis you run while signed in is saved to your account, so you can re-open it and re-download the report anytime, no need to pay or re-run.

Refunds & support

What’s your refund policy?+

When you first buy a plan you’re covered by a 100% money-back guarantee: if you’re not satisfied for any reason, request a full refund within 14 days of your first payment, no questions asked, even if you’ve already run a few reviews. Automatic renewals (month 2 onward) are non-refundable, cancel anytime to stop future charges and keep access until the end of the period you’ve paid for. See our Refund Policy for full details.

How does the money-back guarantee work?+

Within 14 days of your first payment on a plan, email us or click "Request refund" in your account. We review each request against our Refund Policy and return approved refunds to your original payment method. Renewal charges after the first payment aren’t refundable, but you can cancel to stop them.

If I cancel partway through the month, do I get a refund for that month?+

No. Cancelling stops your next renewal but doesn’t refund the current period, you keep full access until the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for. Periods you’ve already used aren’t refunded.
